Beaches

Coogee Beach

Coogee Beach has a contemporary promenade, beachfront terraces and a wide sandy beach with hotels, cafes, restaurants and beautiful parklands nearby. Coogee Beach has grown from a destination for day trippers in the early 1800s to one of Sydney’s most frequented beaches. Its ocean rock pools also have a long and interesting history and remain a popular attraction today. A beach inspector/lifeguard patrols the beach in summer and winter.

Clovelly Beach

Clovelly Beach lies between Bronte Beach to the north and Gordon’s Bay to the south. It is a small and tranquil beach, lying at the mouth of a narrow bay between two rocky ridges. A breakwater at the mouth of the bay provides protection and creates a calm swimming environment. It is particularly popular with family groups and the elderly.

Maroubra Beach

The beach and parklands are used for swimming, surfing, sunbathing, beach fossicking, picnicking, ball games, promenading, fishing, walking and jogging. There is also a cafe/kiosk area. More restaurants and cafes are located on Marine Parade directly opposite the beach.

Malabar Beach

Long Bay is the dominant natural feature viewed from Malabar Beach. The deeply incised and narrow form of the bay is unusual in Sydney and is a result of the inundated heads of coastal stream valleys. The bay itself is about one kilometre wide at the heads and narrows to about 150 metres at the beach. The water depth is generally less than 10 metres. The beach is not patrolled by lifeguards.
