Play and Music Therapy

The KCC provides an extensive Play Therapy service to help children and their families through the hospital experience and to minimise the impact of hospitalisation on their life.

A Play Therapist is trained extensively in education, including child development and aims to integrate familiar experiences into an otherwise unfamiliar and sometimes threatening environment. This is done through therapeutic play, medical play, procedure education and distraction support. The Play Therapist works with children and adolescents individually as well as in group settings.

The KCC has offered Music Therapy services since 1999. Music Therapy is the planned and creative use of music to address an individual’s physical, emotional, intellectual and/or social needs. The registered Music Therapist is a trained professional who focuses on achieving therapeutic outcomes through the medium of music. Both individual and group sessions are provided.
